Jesus in the Old Testament part 2....Noah's ark.

When we hear the Old Testament story of Noah's ark what comes to mind?
Usually we think about a kids story. Yet the whole story is about a type of Christ.
The Ark (Christ body), the flood, (baptism), the rainbow (the promise of a new covenant).
When you start to see Jesus in the Old Testament the books become more than good moral stories, they become alive.
Noah was like a "second Adam" in a sense. After the flood all the human race came from him. (Gen. 8:15-9:17)
Jesus Christ is called "the second Adam" because eternal life is found only through him. (1 Cor. 15:47)
The ark Noah built was a refuge for a chosen few and animals. (Gen. 6:19-7:5)
It was representative of the coming salvation and baptism brought only through Jesus' death and resurrection and belief in him.
The rainbow also representing a promise of a new covenant.
All who are called by the Lord through Jesus Christ enter into his salvation by faith and mercy. He provides salvation for all who are called by his name. (Galations 3:27-29)
Jesus is the fullfilment of the new covenant.
The ark Noah built delivered Noah and his family from certain death. (Gen. 7:7) In turn giving them new life.
Jesus Christ's body "the church" was delivered from the wrath of God through His Son's blood and being immersed with Jesus in His death.
A baptism if you will. Not the physical, but a spiritual baptism. (Romans 5:9, 6:3-4 and 1 Peter 3:21)
Noah offered a sacrifice offered the blood of clean animals. (Gen. 8:20-9:6)
Jesus offered Himself. The ultimate sacrifice. (1 Peter 1:18-19)
Noah was not perfect. He was described as a" righteous man, blameless among all the people of his time. He also walked with God." (Gen. 6:9)
Jesus was and always will be the only perfect and blameless man. (Hebrews 4:15)

I want to add. There is much more to the ark compared with Jesus than what I have here. I would welcome other to add in the comments what they know. That is how we learn. I don't have it all. We each have a piece.

Tomorrow Abraham and Christ....

Just as it looks like Noah, will be the promised seed, he fails! I think this is a continual theme throughout the Old Testament. First the promise is Macro beginning in Genesis 3, then the it begins to grom more micro from the Godly line of Seth, to Abraham to Jacob and his sons who the promise is made again about the "seed" (Galtians 3) to Moses who promises a prophet, while most think it is him, he drops the Deut 18 of a prophet, then we see the conquest, could it be Joshua? Then we have David where all of Israel has piece on all sides. But he kills Uriah and commits adultrey with Bathsheba, so we see everyone looking for this Messiah, then the prophets come and it becomes more micro, he will be born a certain place, by a virgin, in a certain time.

The entire Old Testament is an unfolding of Redemptive History in it we see glimpses of what the Messiah would look like. He will be prophet like Moses, a warrior like Joshua, he will have the leadership of the Judges, he will be a mighty King, He will be "God with us"! Man I love it, thanks for opening this dialouge!

Wait... You mean there's more to Noah's Ark than providing a cute animal-filled scene to paint on the walls of church nurseries?

Okay, joking aside, yeah, there's tons to unpack in that story. One thing that comes to mind is the picture of the judgement that is coming upon the whole world, and how Jesus is the only way to escape it... Christ will redeem those who put their trust in Him, as well as restore the entirety of creation afterwards, but those who laughed at the idea of judgement will be up a creek, without a paddle...

There a few I love:

Just as they were IN the ark - we are to be found IN HIM.

True covering is an ARK - not an UMBRELLA. The umbrella may stop the rain (usually associated with blessing in scripture) - but is pretty worthless against the flood. Christ carries us thru the floods in our lives.

The ark was pitched inside and out. The Hebrew word for "pitch" (kaphar) is the same word used as ATONEMENT. To cover, propitiate... It's a redemptive covering. It's the Blood of Jesus that covers us, keeping the flood waters from seeping in thru the many cracks in our vessels.

Jerry-
Thank you for the comment. I do appreciate some more aspects of what is seen in Noah and the meaning of what all transpired according to Christ.

what is your take on the following verse compared to your timeline for the return of Christ? “No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son,f but only the Father. 37As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.

Ange, thank you for visiting Biblically Speaking.
As for your question I would only say that as it states no one knows the times.

Jesus states the following in Matthew 24:6 "And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed, for this must take place, but the end is not yet."

Also there is the following scripture for us all to know:

And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, Hebrews 9:27

Saying all of that no matter what the day or season is for Christ's coming we as beleivers must always live as if today is our last.
He is in control and we are not to worry. We are to proclaim the goodnews to all.

I hope this helps.

Sincerely, Steven
