History repeats itself from scriptures.....Ezekiel 7

I was reading in Ezekiel today in my studies and this scripture popped out at me. It reminds me of what is going on in the modern American church.

"As I live," says the Lord God, "neither your sister Sodom nor her daughters have done as you and your daughters have done. Look this was the iniquity of your sister Sodom: She and her daughter had PRIDE, FULLNESS of FOOD, and ABUNDANCE of IDLENESS; neither did she STRENGTHEN the HAND of the POOR
and NEEDY. And they were HAUGHTY and committed ABOMINATION before Me; therefore I took them away as I saw fit." Ezekiel 7:48-50

I know God was speaking to Israel at the time, but how much resemblance is there with what we in America are doing in the churches? The modern church is doing no better than Sodom. Harsh words I know, but look in the mirror per se and see what is going on.
Do we think we can continue to be prideful, and idle? Do we feel we can continue to store up food for ourselves without ever being concerned about the poor and needy. We have some who claim to be Christian committing abominations. No one is calling out the sinners who are hiding in the churches. We need to repent before God releases His judgement on us. After all the word says, that judgement will start in the church before it starts in the world.

The more I read of the Old Testament, and come across more examples of those kinds of resemblances, the more I'm beginning to think that they AREN'T just aimed at Israel, but actually at all who fit into the category of thinking they are the people of God. It's almost like Israel, and it's history, is like a microcosm of the Church. I guess in sort of was the first church in some ways. Paul said that not who are called Israel are Israel, and we can see that for ourselves when we read through the prophets of the OT. It's always been a scenario of God calling on the people who bear God's name to stop prostituting themselves with the world. Like the bible also says, "There's nothing new under the sun!"

Daniel,
Good point! I love to read through the Old Testament and then see some of what you are talking about for today. After all some of the book of Daniel has been mentioned in the New Testament for the believers plus some other areas of end time type prophecies.
Thanks for your comments,
Steven
